Another Successful Heart Walk
The Mended Hearts Chapter 200 Team for the
2007 Greater Washington Region Heart Walk

The success of the 2007 American Heart Association (AHA) Heart Walk cannot be measured by the money raised or by just counting the walkers or those who generously supported them but by the many, many people who will be helped.  The $3730 donated to the Mended Hearts Team will make it possible for the AHS to help support medical research, public health education and professional education and training (CPR and AED courses).

Our Walkers joined other survivors, family members, friends and supporters to make a red ribbon of thousands of people who walked around the National Mall.  They called attention to the problem of heart disease and the great work of the American Heart Association.  

The Heart Walk festivities included motivating program, health expo and informational tents on issues such as research, women's heart health, stroke, and raising healthy kids! There was music, refreshments, and all who attended had a great time.

Some of our members who could not do the Walk with us helped the AHA by manning a phone bank. These open heart surgery survivors called 500 Team Captains to thank them and let them know, personally, how much we appreciated their hard work.

One of the reasons our Heart Walk was a success was the unique efforts of Jack Underhill.  He is a member and visitor who raised $675.  He didn’t send emails, he didn’t ask anyone for money. He painted house numbers on the curb for the residents in his neighborhood.   Jack’s neighbors were very generous realizing that he was working so hard to help a cause so deserving.
