Events Another Successful Heart Walk The 2009 Greater Washington Region Heart Walk took place on the National Mall on November 14, 2009. Each year, through the participation of members, families, and friends, Mended Hearts Chapter 200 raises thousands of dollars for heart research and education. Half of the money collected goes directly to medical research for heart and cardiovascular diseases. Many procedures, drugs and treatments would not be available without the generous contributions collected in the past. The remaining funds support heart disease education programs. Mended Hearts receives and distributes literature regarding heart disease and life style changes to help us lead heart healthy lives. This year, our chapter collected nearly $3000 to support these causes. We thank all of you who had participated through your walks and your donations, and we are especially grateful to Kevin Houlihan who, as our American Heart Association liaison, coordinated the participation of our chapter this year. Our Walkers joined other survivors, family members, friends and supporters to make a red ribbon of thousands of people who walked around the National Mall. They called attention to the problem of heart disease and the great work of the American Heart Association.
